Stress Kills
Psychologists believe that an unwanted or unhappy pregnancy without physical damage may harmfully effect the future of an unborn child. They are unsure of the exact mechanics but it has been noted that elevated stress levels result in secretion of hormones, such as cortisol, that can be toxic to a fetus.
The Struggle of Birth

It's believed that complications during birth can affect the way a child develops normally. These include incidents such as anoxia and damage from forceps which can cause cranial swelling as in the case of William Heirens.
