Prodromal
Phase: During this phase, it is
not obvious that someone
has schizophrenia. However, during this
phase family and friends will feel that these
individuals are beginning to fall apart. They
often experience social withdrawal, loss of interest in work/academics
and express
little emotion. It may seem as if they
are just “going through a phase,” but it is actually just the beginning
of the
disease.
Active
Phase: During this phase,
schizophrenic symptoms
become obvious. Often, this phase is
triggered by stressful situations.
Residual
Phase:
During this phase, behavior returns to as it was during
the
prodromal phase. Symptoms of the active
phase decrease, but some negative symptoms may stay around, like one’s
general
apathy or monotonous voice.
