ANNOUNCEMENTS
December 5, 2005
FINAL FALL GRADES
Final grades for fall semester are due from faculty on December 30th.
Final grades (report cards) will NOT
be mailed to you automatically at the end of fall semester. You may check your grades
on-line via the web by accessing the Student Information System. If for any
other reason you need a printed copy of your final grades, you may request
one in writing at the Registrar's Office, via regular mail, or by fax at
651-696-6600. There is no charge for this service.
VALIDATION
SPRING SEMESTER VALIDATION PROCESS
For those who have pre-registered for Spring 2006:
1. Beginning Wednesday, January 18, 2006, check the Student Information System (SIS) to see if you have any
validation holds. Holds will appear immediately on the main page after logging in to your SIS account.
2. If you do not have any holds listed, you have automatically been validated for spring -
no need to check in with the Registrar's Office!
3. If you do have holds, you must visit the office that has placed this hold on your validation,
and make satisfactory arrangements to clear this hold. Once the Registrar's Office is notified that
you've cleared all holds, you will be validated. Validation should be completed the first day of class,
Monday, January 23rd. The last possible day to validate is Friday, February 3rd. If you don't validate
by the February 3rd deadline, you will be dropped from all of your courses and lose your status as a student.
4. If you decide not to return for spring semester, you must notify the Dean of Students Office to arrange for a
temporary or permanent withdrawal from the college.
NOTES: You have to be validated in order to: appear on class lists, drop/add courses, declare grading options, access course folders, etc.
QUESTIONS about registration or validation? Have a change of address? New phone number? Please contact the
Registrar's Office by phone (x6200), email (registrar@macalester.edu) or by stopping in to the office located
on the first floor of 77 Mac.
REGISTRATION
There have been changes to the spring 2006 class schedule. Please check
the Spring 2006 Class Schedule listing.
See the Registration Instructions menu
option for details.
PRIVACY INFORMATION
Your right to privacy is an important matter, and we believe that you
should know exactly what will and won't be released about you and your
educational records at Macalester.
The following is defined as "directory information" and may be disclosed
to ANYONE.
- Student name
- LOCAL address
- LOCAL phone
- Date of birth
- Major field
- Dates of Attendance
- Degrees and awards received
- Most recent previous educational institution attended
- Participation in officially recognized sports & activities
- Weight/height of members of athletic teams
If asked for any other information about you or your educational records,
we would require a written authorization from you or your parent(s)
before we would release it. There are some times when information will
be released without your authorization
(e.g., a court order); those exceptions are outlined in detail in the student
handbook. Faculty or staff with a legitimate educational need to know the
information in your record do have access to it.
If for any reason you do not want the information outlined as "directory
information" released to anyone who asks, you simply have to request in
writing that all directory information about you be restricted. There is a
form in the Registrar's Office that you can sign for this purpose. Your
request is effective throughout the end of the academic year, and you must
renew it yearly.
ADDRESS CHANGES
Moved? Please tell us! Our office is the repository for address and phone
numbers for current students and their parents. If you or your parents
have moved recently, drop by and fill out an address change form. We won't
automatically change your parent(s) address just because you change your own
permanent address; we don't like to make assumptions. Forgive us if it seems like
we're asking the obvious -- we want to be sure your family members get the appropriate
mailings at the right addresses!
GRADUATING SENIOR STUFF
If you have worries (serious or otherwise) about your graduation status,
you may make an appointment with Jayne to review your status. Five to
fifteen minutes to make sure that there are no hitches with your
graduation is worth the effort. Call x6200.
Some of the things you should remember to do: file an Intent to be
Graduated form, revise major/core/minor plans, check your family
addresses.
