Jayne Niemi
Registrar

Jayne helps to ensure compliance with office and college policies, both inside and outside of the office. She also works closely with committees of the college, such as Educational Policy and Governance (EPAG), IDIM, SARC, Academic Standing and Commencement. The Registrar monitors students' progress towards graduation, as well as eligibility for Commencement. In addition to this work she looks at and answers questions and issues related to FERPA. Jayne will also serve on the Faculty/Staff Entertainment Committee through 2009.

After all of the work done by herself and the rest of the office leading up to graduation, Jayne serves the college during Commencement ceremonies by announcing the name of each graduate as they walk across the stage to receive their diploma—the Associated Press reported on this aspect of Jayne's job in May 2008. Michelle Bitney
Student Records Coordinator

Michelle gets the office off on the right foot by assuring accurate entry of all course and student information for schedules and registrations to be built upon. She coordinates the registration of ACTC students, all other non-degree seeking students (including high school students availing themselves of Post-Secondary Enrollment Option programs) and of Macalester students on study away experiences. She also coordinates the collection of mid-term and final grades from the Faculty and assures that grades are able to be entered onto students' records in a timely manner. Michelle also handles special data entry projects and the entry of current address and phone number information for students and the parents or guardians of students. Michelle serves on the Faculty/Staff Entertainment Committee through 2011.

Linda Foss
Student Records Clerk

Linda processes requests for transcripts and handles the majority of incoming calls to our office. In addition to these regular tasks, Linda resolves inquiries from the National Student Clearinghouse, serves as Macalester's contact for Veteran's Administration programs and carries out name change requests.

Addy Free
Reporting Specialist

Addy coordinates and develops reporting and other data solutions in order to help the college best utilize the academic, demographic and biographic information of current students stored in the college's central database, Banner. He manages security and provides training and support for the Registrar's resources in the report writing and design tool, Argos. In addition to these duties, Addy also provides desktop training and troubleshooting, and maintains a web presence for the office. Addy will serve on the Staff Advisory Council through 2011 and the Staff Affirmative Action Committee through 2010.

When Addy isn't in the Registrar's Office he likes to get out into the Twin Cities to take advantage of all of their great cultural offerings, enjoying places like the Bedlam and 331. He is also an organizer for an affordable housing co-op, Arrowtown Housing. During the summer months Addy attends the Graduate Institute at St. John's College in Santa Fe, New Mexico--any other month of the year you can find him reading in a corner.

Julie McEathron
Assistant Registrar

Julie coordinates the transfer of credits from other institutions of higher education and examinations such as Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate. Also, Julie is charged with integrating study abroad courses into students' records as they return from their experience. She orchestrates the collection of planned course offerings and the scheduling of those courses, as well as the collection of entries for the college catalog. Julie evaluates the applications of non-degree seeking students and coordinates the evaluation of students applying for readmission. In addition, Julie serves on college committees that help to coordinate the effective use of the college's central database and the standardization of data entry. She also represents the office as part of the New Employee Orientation Program.

In her free time Julie enjoys road trips, kayaking, being outdoors, convincing herself and her running group that half-marathons are a good idea, and relaxing with a glass of wine. She's also got a thing for power tools and is slowly making progress rejuvenating her nearly 100 year old home. Mainly, she just likes to keep people guessing ...

Eileen Valencia
Student Records Clerk

Eileen handles a multitude of changes to student and academic records, including majors, minors, concentrations, leaves of absence, withdrawals and changes to grades and expected graduation dates. Eileen also coordinates much of the process that looks at students' progress towards graduation. She also evaluates and certifies athletic eligibility on behalf of the office.
