First Year Halls



Dupre Hall is located on the northeast corner of campus. It is at the corner of Summit and Snelling Avenues. Dupre was built in 1962 and renovated in the summer of 1994. There are four floors that are co-ed. Dupre is Macalester’s largest residence hall.
Resident Information: Dupre houses over 260 first-year and sophomore students. Singles are mainly for sophomores, doubles are mainly for first-years. Meal plans are required for all residents.
Bathrooms: Two bathrooms for each sex on every floor.
Laundry Facilities: Each floor of Dupre has two washers and two dryers.
Kitchen: There are microwaves and sinks in every lounge kitchen. There is a full kitchen, with stove, microwave and sink on the ground floor of Dupre.
Computer Labs/Internet Access: Dupre has two 24-hour computer labs located on the second and third floors. All resident rooms in Dupre are Ethernet accessible.
Lounges: Dupre Hall has a main/formal lounge on the 1st floor with a large fireplace, a piano, and is an ideal spot for meetings. There are spacious informal lounges on each floor. Each floor lounge has a TV with cable and a DVD player. The fourth and fifth floors have a study lounge as well.
General Room Information: Dupre is comprised of approximately 60% double rooms and 40% single rooms. Dupre also has two triples and one quad on each floor.
Room Dimensions: Single: 14’4” x 7’ ; Double: 14’8” x 14’4” ; Triple: 14'4" x 21'6" ; Quad: 14'4" x 28'8" (plus window alcove).
Room Furnishings: Dupre rooms have newer style lofted beds with large desks a desk chair and dressers underneath.

Doty Hall is located on Summit Avenue between Wallace and Turck Halls. Doty Hall was built in 1964 and features alternating single-sex floors.
Resident Information: Doty houses over 170 first-years. Meal plans are required for all residents.
Bathrooms: One single-sex bathroom on each floor
Laundry Facilities: The laundry room is located on the ground floor
Kitchen: Every floor’s lounge has a stove, sink, and microwave.
Computer Labs/Internet Access: The nearest computer labs are in Dupre and Kagin Commons. All resident rooms are Ethernet accessible.
Lounges: There are informal and study lounges on every floor, each have a television with cable, as well a formal lounge with a TV and a fireplace on the main floor. The informal lounges have small kitchenettes with a stove, microwave, and sink.
General Room Information: Doty hall has doubles on each floor, as well as triples and singles on the second, third, fourth and fifth floors.
Room Dimensions: Double: 14’3” x 12’2” ; Triple:12'2" x 14'4" ; Singles: (Two different sizes) 14'3" x 8'6" or 17' x 8'6"
Room Furnishings: Doty has versatile furniture: extra-long, unlofted twin beds and large desks and a desk chair. Every room in Doty has a sink.

Turck Hall is located on Grand Ave. between Dupre and Wallace/Bigelow/30 Macalester. Turck Hall was constructed in 1957 and had some remodeling work done in 1992. Turck has recently undergone construction to add lounge spaces, storage, and exercise room, and approximately 50 beds.
Resident Information: Turck houses over 180 first-years. Meal plans are required for all residents.
Bathrooms: Two bathrooms on each floor, one for each sex.
Laundry Facilities: The laundry room is located on the first floor of Turck.
Kitchen: Kitchens are available on every floor.
Computer Labs/Internet Access: There are nearby computer labs in Dupre and Kagin Commons. All rooms are Ethernet accessible.
Lounges: There is a lounge equipped on each floor with a TV with cable, microwave, and kitchenette.
General Room Information: Turck has double rooms on each floor.
Room Dimensions: Double: 16’ x 12’
Room Furnishings: Turck has versatile furniture: extra-long, unlofted twin beds and large desks and a desk chair. Every room in Turck has a sink.
