Sophomore Halls

Wallace Hall is located on the corner of Macalester Street and Summit Avenue. Originally constructed in 1907, Wallace Hall is the oldest residence hall on campus. Now a co-ed dorm, Wallace once housed only women. The building is known for its hardwood floors, marble staircases, the formal lounge, and old charm. Wallace’s top floor was renovated in 2002 to create a study lounge and approximately 40 beds. Wallace 4 is a quiet living area, and Wallace 1 is a quiet and chemical free living area.
Resident Information: Wallace houses 165 sophomores. Meal plans are required of all residents.
Bathrooms: Each floor has two bathrooms, one for each sex.
Laundry Facilities: Wallace shares laundry facilities with two other residence halls, 30 Mac and Bigelow Hall. There are approximately 6 washers and 6 dryers located in the basement below 30 Mac, located between Bigelow and Wallace.
Kitchen: There is a full kitchen in the formal lounge, including a stove, microwave, and sink.
Computer Labs/Internet Access: The nearest computer lab is located in Dupre or Kagin Commons. All rooms in Wallace are Ethernet accessible.
General Room Information: Wallace has singles, doubles, and triples.
Room Dimensions: Single: 12’0” x 11’8”; Double: 11’1’ x 16’0” ; Triple 1: 15’2” x 11’0” ; Triple 2: 16’8” x 10’4”
Room Furnishings: Wallace has traditional-style furniture with beds that can be debunked, desks, and a lounge chair in each room. All rooms in Wallace have sinks.

This residence hall is located on 30 Macalester Street between Bigelow and Wallace Halls. 30 Mac was converted to a residential living area in the summer of 1997 with the help of a student design team. It is directly connected to Wallace and Bigelow, as well as Doty Hall via a tunnel. 30 Mac is a co-ed hall and has one floor. 30 Mac is a quiet and chemical free living area.
Resident Information: 30 Mac houses 33 sophomores only. Meal plans are required for all residents.
Bathrooms: There is one bathroom for each sex in 30 Mac located on opposite ends of the hall.
Laundry Facilities: 30 Mac has two washers and dryers. The hall may also share laundry facilities with Bigelow and Wallace Halls. There are approximately 6 washers and dryers located in the basement below 30 Macalester Street.
Kitchen: 30 Mac has a full kitchen, including an oven, microwave and stove.
Computer Labs/Internet Access: The nearest computer lab is in Dupre or Kagin Commons. All rooms in 30 Mac are Ethernet accessible.
Lounges: There is a large lounge with a TV with cable and a full kitchen in the center of 30 Mac.
General Room Information: This residence hall has singles, doubles, and triples.
Room Dimensions: Single: 9’6” x 13’; Double: 12’6” x 17’6’”
Room Furnishings: 30 Mac has the newer style lofted beds with a desk and dresser underneath. All rooms in 30 Mac have sinks.

Bigelow Hall is on the corner of Grand Avenue and Macalester Street. Bigelow was built in 1947 and was most recently remodeled in 1992. It is connected via tunnels to Wallace, Doty and 30 Macalester Street and features single-sex floor arrangements in the basement and first floor, and co-ed floors on the second and third floors. It is also connected to Turck via a skyway.
Resident Information: Bigelow houses over 110 sophomores. Meal plans are required for all residents.
Bathrooms: The basement and first floor have one bathroom on each floor. The second and third floors have two bathrooms, one for each sex.
Laundry Facilities: Bigelow shares laundry facilities with two other residence halls, 30 Macalester Street and Wallace Hall. There are approximately 6 washers and 6 dryers in the basement below 30 Macalester Street, located between Bigelow and Wallace Halls.
Kitchen: A stove, microwave, and sink are located in the basement and lounges.
Computer Labs/Internet Access: The nearest computer lab is located in Dupre and Kagin Commons. All rooms in Bigelow are Ethernet accessible.
Lounges: Lounges will be open this year. They have TVs, microwaves, and sinks.
General Room Information: Bigelow is comprised of mostly double rooms. There are singles on each floor and in the basement.
Room Dimensions: Single: 13’ x 10’; Double: 16’4” x 11’
Room Furnishings: Bigelow has traditional style furniture with bunk beds that can be debunked, desks, and a lounge chair in each room. All doubles are equipped with a sink.
