Housing Information for New Students

Room and roommate assignments for New Students

All first-year and sophomore students are required to live on campus. The residence life program has great housing options as well as numerous social and learning opportunities for students based on their class year.  Living in the residence halls provides:

• Opportunities to learn about yourself and others beyond the classroom.
• Resident Assistants to help you make the most of living on campus.
• Opportunities to be a leader and make a difference.
• The safety and convenience to live where you learn.

Room  and Board Costs for the 2014-2015 academic year:

Residence Hall Room - $5608.00 yr; $2804.00 per semester.

Required Board Plan: $4888.00 yr; $2444.00 per semester.

Your Room and Roommate Assignment
We'll do our best to assign you a room and roommate or possibly roommates (we have some triple and quad rooms) based on your preferences. If you are assigned to a residential first-year course, the course location may take priority over your hall or room-type preference. We don't encourage roommate requests, and of the mutual requests we receive, we can accommodate very few.

Your Online Housing Page

Your personal MyHousing webpage contains your housing and roommate assignments and dining plan selections while you are at Macalester. Once your Macalester email account is established in early June and the housing materials are ready, we’ll email and ask you to complete the Housing and Dining Agreement and to answer a few questions about your preferences.

How to access your MyHousing Page when you are contacted in early June:

Log into 1600 Grand (the Macalester College portal for students, faculty and staff) using your Macalester user name and password. At 1600grand choose the Student Life tab and look for the My Housing box. At the first screen select ApplyOnline. Complete the Housing and Dining Agreement 2014-2015 and a few short preferences questions.
