After retiring in 1998 from the Pharmacy faculty at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Ann ('58) and I returned to the land of the frozen and the proud. We built a retirement home on Hardy Lake, Minn., next door to brother Roger (’59). Volunteer activities have included organizing a lake association, serving as chair of the Sylvan Township Planning Commission, reading to nursing home residents under the auspices of the Evergreen Readers supported by the Minnesota Humanities Council, and serving on the Board of the Gordon Rosenmeier Center for State and Local Government.
Mandatory activities? Fishing for sunnies with the grands.
Today? Deferring needed repair on our snowblower.
My Mac Memories:
Live Mutual Network broadcasts of the Macalester Radio Singers, led by Professor Hollis Johnson.
Traveling to St. Olaf for a baseball game (the only win in ’51) to discover that the Oles had erroneously been bussed to Mac before returning to lose the late game by sundown.
Learning from the revered Professor O.T. Walter that, as a young faculty member, he spent a harvest season working on a threshing crew, pitching bundles to supplement the family income during lean years at the college.
