I can’t say that I have accomplished anything extraordinary during the 50 years since graduation from Mac, but I have done the ordinary in some extraordinary places.

I met Ault in Denver where we married and where our son and daughter were born. We moved to Boston; then Ault started working for the U.S. Agency for International Development. The children were three and four years old when we left for La Paz, Bolivia. The attempted and successful coups made our two years there quite exciting. Believe me that living at 12,000 feet above sea level was exhilarating once we learned to breathe deeply. Next we lived in Panama where we saw occasional riots. Our house was visited by a tarantula, a snake, several poisonous toads and a couple of scorpions in the closet! Five years later, we were transferred to Chile. We visited the Galapagos Islands (marvelous) on our way to Santiago, where we spent three fairly quiet years while Pinochet was president. Cairo, Egypt was our last post overseas. My parents visited us and we had a grand time seeing Abu Simbel, the Aswan Dam, Luxor, the tombs of the pharaohs, the pyramids and the Sphinx. Ault and our son just happened to attend the military parade where Anwar Sadat was assassinated. After two years in Cairo, we returned to the States and lived in Bethesda, Maryland, for 18 years! Yea! Only one move in 18 years!

In 2000 Ault and I retired to Ithaca, N.Y., where our daughter and family live. Along the way I was fortunate to teach school (first grade and kindergarten) in all of the countries in which we lived. In Chile and Egypt, I had the opportunity to help a non-profit organization prepare women to teach kindergarten and first grade in their villages. Ault spent time educating himself and received a J.D., an MBA and, later, a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology.

A benefit of living overseas was the opportunity to vacation off the beaten path, both enjoyable and thought provoking.

It certainly has been an interesting life!
