When I enrolled at Macalester in the fall of 1956, I already had two years of junior college, two years of military service and one year of private employment. Not only was I older than most of my classmates, but I had been away from the classroom for three years. Combine these facts with the academic rigors presented by Macalester and you have an individual faced with some difficult challenges. I did persevere and received a degree in business. After graduation, I decided to continue at Mac and pursue a teaching degree. During the year of 1959, I enrolled in business education classes and practice taught at St. Paul Central.
I taught business for 31 years in the Racine public schools after getting my certificate. I obtained my master’s at Northern Illinois University.
I married an art teacher in 1963 and we have two sons. Since retiring, Donna and I have enjoyed traveling extensively in the U.S. and Europe. Our two favorite vacation destinations are the Greek Island of Santorini and the Cinque Terra of Northern Italy.
