My ‘Remember When’ story:
· Playing snare drum and uke

My husband Jon, who was my Scout leader's son, and I were married in June 1957. We have four children who all became military officers — one in the Army, one in the Navy, two in the Air Force. We now have 10 grandchildren.

When Jon went on active duty in 1970 from the Illinois National Guard, we became the “family gypsies.” In 1973, when Jon returned home from Viet Nam, we went to Fort Hood, Texas. Central Texas College (CTC) was across the road from Fort Hood. My children were on the first bus pick-up at 7:15 a.m. and the last off at 4:15 p.m., so now I had a little time for school. In May 1975, I graduated from CTC with an Associate Degree in Nursing and got my RN.

Then Jon was assigned to the Pentagon. We moved to Springfield, Virginia and I went to George Mason University. I graduated from there in August 1977 with a BSN. I've worked in Medical/Surgical Orthopedics, Rehabilitation and Psych. for twenty-five years. One of my favorite jobs is that of volunteer team nurse on short-term mission trips. God has privileged Jon and I to travel to many countries this way bringing Bibles, food, medicine, clothes, shoes, school supplies, Teddy bears, and other stuffed animals as far East as Novosibinsk, Siberia, and as far West as Yongon, Myanmar (old Rangoon, Burma).

I am your “Eeyore” x-58 class member. Because I was working my way through school it took me a little longer than most of you — about 19 years. I attended "Mac" for three semesters: ’54-’55 freshman year and spring semester of ’56. As a freshman I was part of the 1st Floor Wally Hall gang. My roommate was Nancy Larson. The third semester I was there, I lived across the street from Wally Hall. The day I left "Mac" I went to the alumni office and asked them to put me on their ‘list’. They did and I have been getting Macalester Today ever since.

Even though I have never been back to the Twin Cities, I still remember most of you on the Planning Committee. If none of you remember me; I will understand. Living, studying, working and playing together as part of the "Mac" community seemed like one big family to me, more than any other school I attended.
