My ‘Remember When’ story:
·
Being a decade older than most
In September 1958, I received an unsolicited, serendipitous invitation to come to Pepperdine College (now Pepperdine University) to teach Biology. That was the beginning of my 40 years in the professoriate at places like U. of Wyoming (I earned my Ph.D. at Wyoming), Northwestern College, Eastern Washington University, Washington State U., and Whitworth College. Pat, my wife, also taught at Pepperdine and at Whitworth. Her expertise was in voice and theater. We retired in 1993 after thirty years at Whitworth. I have had avocational careers in home building and lay ministry. I have done a bit of writing, mostly since retirement.
Pat and I celebrated the 60th anniversary of our wedding in June 2007. We are about as healthy as late inning persons have right a right to expect. We have seven grandchildren and three, (going on five) great grandchildren. We are not famous or wealthy, but aside from that life has been good. We have mastered retirement, which in my current writing endeavor I call Life In The Exit Lane. We live in an essentially round 12-sided house I designed and built one summer to clear my mind of the accumulated dross of the meritocracy of academic pursuit. I wrote a book about the latter – The Improbable Professor. If anyone is interested, send me your home address and I will send you a copy.
