After graduation, I attended Union Theological Seminary in New York City for a year, but got married and found myself drawn back to philosophy. I completed my Ph.D. at the University of Southern California and taught at Oregon State University, Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and finally at Trinity University — a small liberal arts college much like Macalester. I taught there from 1967 to 2005, with the exception of some years at other institutions like Brown University and the University of Hawaii. Most of my recent research and publications is in the area of Asian and Comparative philosophy. Unable to stay away from teaching, I am teaching part-time as an adjunct at the University of Texas in San Antonio.
