My ‘Remember When’ stories:
·
In preparation for Political Emphasis Week
It was the Miss Woods Elementary Education program that triggered my interest in attending Macalester. Though I spent several years teaching in the elementary schools in St. Cloud and Owatonna, I later discovered another new and very different "career" — that of becoming a dairy farmer, while raising three wonderful young kids.
This all happened when I fell in love and married a fellow Owatonnan, who had recently graduated from the U. of Minnesota. We spent some 35 years producing wholesome Guernsey milk. All this was extremely rewarding and my interest in dairying continues today, though the cows and the daily trips to the barn are gone. Many a time we hosted farm visits by Mac friends, such as Jill Trescott Miel ’58 and husband Ernie and their family. Those get-togethers with the Miels continue to this day!
Since I have lived my entire life here in Steele County, I have been involved in various activities over the years, including serving 15 years on the Owatonna Board of Education, some 15 years on the local Norwest Bank Board of Directors, and 22 years as Steele Co. Free Fair Supt. of Dairy Cattle. Though somewhat different today, my volunteer involvement continues. Giving back and helping others is very gratifying to me.
My husband Bruce and I have three children, each of whom is happily married and very successful in their life's work. There are eight amazing grandchildren, ages 4 to 15 — all living here in Minnesota. Unfortunately, Bruce passed away in July 2005 and is truly missed by all of us.
It has been such a pleasure to be involved on the Class of ’58 50-Year Reunion Committee... and getting reacquainted with so many fun and interesting classmates. Thank you, Nancy Slaughter ’58, my dear friend and Summit House roommate!← previous | who’s submitted | next →
