My ‘Remember When’ stories:
· Living in the Wally attic
· SPAN mottos to travel by
I graduated from Macalester in January 1958 and went to work as a social worker for Ramsey County Welfare Department. Vik Wilson ’58 and I then moved to Benson, Minn., where I couldn't find a job — so we had three daughters to keep me busy.
In 1963, we moved to Stillwater and still live in the same house that we bought then. I was at home with foster children and our children — had one son and found another one. I worked part time writing for the Stillwater Gazette newspaper and then went to graduate school at the University of Minnesota and got a master's degree in Library Science. (I don't give them any money as they abolished that department!) I worked in a public library, college library and for 15 years at the Somerset, Wis., high school library.
Since then, I co-authored Biking With the Wind, a guide book to bicycle routes in Minnesota and Wisconsin; taught English to immigrants; worked at the State Fair; and am on the national board of directors for SERVAS (website), an international nonprofit peace and friendship organization promoting peace through short-term home stays. Vik and I recently celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary.
