Seeing three U.S. Presidents
Through the years, I saw three presidents or future presidents of the United States pass Summit and Snelling in motorcades: Truman, Eisenhower and Nixon. There was a joke on campus about a longtime hermit coming out of the woods and asking if Ike was still in the White House. “No,” was the answer, “he’s dead.” The hermit was shocked, “Oh my gosh! That means Vice President Nixon is president!”

The scent of lilacs on Summit
In late September we walked west on Summit Avenue to see the fall colors flooding the bank of the Mississippi. In April we wandered east on Summit graced by clouds of scented lilacs.
