Creating a Safe Macalester

Macalester Safety and Security works closely with the St. Paul Police Department, Fire Department and Emergency Medical Service to ensure campus safety. Security officers patrol campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

SAFEwalk, a campus SAFEwalk escort service, operates seven days a week from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. during the spring and fall semester, when classes are in session.

Emergency Notification

In the event of an emergency on campus, Macalester uses multiple channels to notify the campus community. These include:

• Building alarms
• Email and The Daily Piper
• Mac Alert, Macalester’s emergency notification text messaging system
• On-the-ground public safety personnel
• The web: macalester.edu
• Voice mail and phone messaging

During an emergency, our goal is to communicate first with those most immediately impacted—people who need to evacuate or seek medical treatment, for example.
