Hazard Hotline is a service that will provide the most up-to-date,
easily
accessible information about chemical products used in the Macalester
workplace
and is only a phone call or on-line access away for all employees.
The following is available by calling the Hazard Hotline which is
located
at the Damarco Solutions in Minneapolis, MN:
1. ACCESS - access to health professionals on a 24-hour-a-day basis.
Poison
information nurses, pharmacists and/or physicians will help you
understand
information contained on labels and material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
and
identify to you no matter what shift you are working and no matter how
remote
your worksheet. If needed the MSDS in question may be faxed to your
location
or the Macalester College Security Officer at 651.696-6135. If an MSDS
is
to be faxed to the Security Office please call the on officer on-duty
at
x6555
to retreive and deliver your MSDS to your on campus location.
2. ADVICE - advice on appropriate first aid and emergency action is
avaiable. If you feel you have a immediate life threatening health
concern call 911.
3. INFORMATION - information which supplements on-site Right-to-Know
data.
You need not identify yourself when you call; however, certain
information
must be obtained from you to assist in evaluating the work environment.
Examples of information that will be requested when you call are:
1. Department name or worksheet
2. Product name
3. Manufactures's name and phone number
4. How you may have been exposed
If possible, have the product container or label with you when calling
the
Hazard Hotline. This will speed up the process of getting correct
information
back to you. If an immediate answer is not available, your question
will
be researched and you will be called back or, if you prefer, you can
call
back.
