SAFE WALK
SERVICE
The purpose the Safe Walk service is to provide a safe walk for Macalester students, faculty, and staff within a one mile radius from the campus boundaries. Escorts are provided to and from any location within the following boundaries: University Avenue to the north, Randolph Avenue to the south, Lexington Avenue to the east, and Cleveland Avenue to the west. The service is operated by students, funded through the Campus Programs, and supervised by Campus Center Staff. The escorts can be found in the Eichorn Student Activities Center in the Campus Center. On-campus, the number to call is 6699. From off-campus, the number to call is (651)696-6699. The Safe Walk operation hours are Sunday through Thursday from 8:30PM until 12:30AM; Friday from 10:30PM until 1:00AM; Saturday from 10:30PM until 1:30AM. All requests for escorts made after hours will be referred to Campus Security. The escorts go out in pairs of one woman and one man and can be identified by their navy blue jackets or orange vests. They carry a flashlight and a two-way radio so as to keep in contact with the dispatcher (the Information Desk Assistant) and the Campus Security Officers. At times when the Safe Walk persons are not available, Macalester Security Officers will escort community members within the campus boundaries. For a SAFE WALK 24 hours a day call x6699.
