MACALESTER COLLEGE

Security Alert, Watch and
Timely Warning and Information format

In the event that a situation arises, either on or off (near) campus, that, in the judgment Director of Safety and Security and in consultation with the Dean of Students, constitutes an ongoing threat, a campus wide timely warning: will be issued.  The warning will be issued through the college e-mail system to Faculty, Staff and Students and the campus' and a Bulletin Flash notice.

Depending on the particular circumstances of the crime, especially in all situations that could pose an immediate threat to the community and individuals, the Safety and Security Office will also post a notice on the Safety and Security web site at:  <http://www.macalester.edu/security/security-alerts/index.html> providing the college community with more immediate notification. In such instances, a copy of the notice is posted in Residence Halls and other campus buildings.  Anyone with information warranting a timely warning should report, by phone, the circumstances to the Director of Macalester Security and Security  x6555 or in person at the Safety and Security Office.

The Security Office has devised several levels of communicating accurate information to the campus community in the event there has been a crime or criminal behavior on or close to campus. Alerts and Warning/Watches are posted in a timely manner.

The following are examples of the color of paper and the basic content of the information posted for the different levels of Alerts.

 Safety/Security ALERT (Black lettering on "HOT PINK" paper).

- ALERTS are posted for serious crimes on or very close to campus, happening to members of the community.

- Posted throughout campus, primarily on Exterior doors of buildings and Security Bulletin Boards.

- Gives a brief description of the event, time and location and the victim's description of the perpetrator.

- This information may also be distributed by voice or campus-wide email serve lists and available on the Security WEB page.

 

Safety/Security WARNING/WATCHES (Black lettering on "YELLOW" paper).

- WARNINGS/WATCHES are posted for less serious events on or near campus. The incident may have or not have happened to a member of the Macalester Community.

- Posted throughout campus on Security Bulletin Boards.

- Gives a brief description of the event, time and location and the victim's description of the perpetrator.

- This information may be distributed by voice and or campus-wide email serve lists and available on the Security WEB page.

 

Safety/Security INFORMATION/REMINDERS, (Black lettering on "BLUE" paper).

- General personal safety topics reminding persons to be aware of their surroundings and take appropriate precautions.

- Posted through out campus on Safety and Security Bulletin Boards.

- Table Tents and Posters are printed on various colors of paper and and are general safety and security topics.
