SUBJECT: SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK - 2008
During the week of April 21-25, 2008, I am asking Macalester
community members to take a few minutes to review the attached
important
Severe Weather information sheet and
the Campus Severe
Weather Shelter
locations.
Also during this week the State of Minnesota
is conducting a campaign to broaden the awareness of the general public
of the dangers associated with tornadoes,
severe storms and lightning.
To
facilitate this exercise of emergency plans the State will be
conducting two statewide tornado drills on Thursday, April 24, 2008.
The first drill
will occur at 1:45 p.m., Thursday, April 24. Sirens
will
sound to test the warning system. No "all clear" sirens will
be sounded.
A second tornado drill
will occur at 6:55 p.m. on April 24. 2008. This drill will focus on
families and second shift employees. This is a good time to talk with
your family members about
how to respond to severe weather conditions and to actually take shelter at home
in your designated shelter space.
For more Family Disaster Plan information check the FEMA(Federal
Emergency Management Agency) Web site at: www.fema.gov then in the search block type in
Family Disaster Plan
and retrieve and review information.
Our goal is that with improved planning and increased awareness of the
effects of severe weather, we will all be better prepared to respond to
an emergency.
