Mahnaz Kousha, Professor

Professor Kousha finished her undergraduate studies at the College of Fine Arts in Tehran and received her PhD in Sociology from the University of Kentucky. She teaches Introduction to Sociology, Interpretive Sociology, Sociology of Race and Ethnicity, Family Bonds, and Images of Women in the Middle East. Professor kousha has published articles on the relationship between African American household workers and White employers. Her book, Voices from Iran: the Changing Lives of Iranian Women, focuses on women's lives in Iran and explores intimate family dynamics between parents and their daughters. The book examines the broad socio-cultural changes that were happening in the country during the last three to four decades. Professor Kousha’s current research explores issues related to men and their relationship with their parents by providing a close look at male gender role socialization in a comparative context. Professor Kousha is a member of the Board of Directors and co-founder of the journal, Critique: Critical Middle Eastern Studies, and co-organizer of the Annual Conference: Life and Politics in the Middle East.
