Graduate Named 2008 Fulbright Scholar
Cris Ramon '06Starting in September 2008, Cris Ramon will study how developments in Spanish immigration law impacts interpretations of labor law as it relates to undocumented workers in Spain. Ramon's research will be conducted under the tutelage of Diego Blázquez Martín, Assistant Professor at the Instituto de Derechos Humanos "Bartolomé de las Casas" at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.
Law and Society Association Undergraduate Paper Competition, first prize and honorable mention:
Patricia Bass '08 and Claire Posner '08At the end of May, Ms. Bass will travel to Montreal to be recognized as the first place winner in the Law and Society Association's annual undergraduate paper competition.
Macalester is also fortunate in being home to Claire Posner, whose entry was given an Honorable Mention in the same competition. Ms. Posner's work was also recently selected for publication by the Missouri Valley Journal of Social Science.
Student Paper Published in Missouri Valley Journal of Social Science
Claire Posner '08"Choosing Truth: The Influence of Function, Institutions, and Global Culture on the Establishment of TRCs" has been accepted for publication by The Missouri Valley Journal of Social Science. The paper was written by Sociology major Claire Posner.
The journal is published by Creighton University in Omaha, NE.
Midwest Sociologists for Women in Society Undergraduate Paper Competition, first prize:
Joanna Trigg '08For the second year in a row a Macalester College Senior has won 1st place in the Midwest Sociologists for Women in Society Undergraduate Paper Competition. This year's 1st place winner was Joanna Trigg, with her paper entitled "Markets, Governments, and the Feminization of Poverty: A Comparison of the United States, Germany, and Sweden."
Ms. Trigg, a Sociology major from Manhasset, New York, has been invited to present her research during a special session of the Midwest Sociological Association's 2008 meetings in St. Louis, Missouri.
