Visiting Instructor
Laura Wasenius, Visiting Instructor, teaches all levels of Spanish language and cultures, as well as the introductory course to analyzing Hispanic literature, and courses relating to Medieval and Golden Age Spanish Peninsular literature. Her primary dissertation focus was on the social function of sexual imagery used in both the 1499 Comedia and the 1502 Tragicomedia de Calixto y Melibea and the socio-historical implications of the differences and, more notably, the similarities between the two texts. Prof. Wasenius also has an interest in early literatures of the New World and teaches a course on literature from both Spain and the New World in the XV-XVII centuries, exploring efforts made through literary production to define cultural and national identity in an ever changing social and political landscape.
