On Dec. 31, 2011, Macalester closed the historic Step Forward comprehensive campaign. Thanks to the generosity of more than 20,000 donors, the most ambitious campaign in the college’s history raised over $156 million in five years, significantly surpassing the original $150 million goal during the most difficult economic climate in the past 80 years.
Three Step Forward building projects will shape Macalester's campus for generations:
- The Leonard Center, a 175,000 square-foot athletic and wellness complex that opened in 2008
- Markim Hall, home to the Institute for Global Citizenship, which opened in 2009 as the first higher education building in the region to earn LEED platinum designation
- The Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center renovation and expansion, scheduled to open in Fall 2012
In addition to generating more than $22 million for the college’s Annual Fund, the campaign raised more than $38 million for student scholarships and student-faculty research funds, plus $29 million for endowed professorships and faculty support.
Thank you to the entire Mac community--faculty, staff, students, friends, foundations, parents, and alumni--whose investments have strengthened the college in countless ways.
