Jim has served as the Dean of Students since 2007. In this role Jim supervises the Directors of Campus Life (residential life), the Campus Activities and Operations, International Student Programs, and the Associate Dean of Students. He is available to assist students with questions, concerns, or difficulty navigating the college environment. He spent 15 years in Student Affairs working in Residence Life and Greek Affairs before coming to Macalester College in 2004 as the Associate Dean of Students.

Jim also serves as the Macalester College Student Government advisor, a member of the Macalester College Harassment Committee and the Student Learning Committee, and a facilitator for the Allies Project.

He enjoys spending time in leadership roles within Student Affairs professional associations and has served on a number of Executive Boards and chaired regional conferences.

Jim received his PhD in Higher Education from St. Louis University, his MS in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration from Indiana University, and his BA in Political Science from the University of New Mexico.
