An Innovative Design

The art building's renovation and expansion will reveal an innovative design that’s both striking and functional, with spaces that draw more students into the arts at Macalester than previous facilities could ever accommodate. Instead of occupying offices and studios in pockets all over campus, studio art faculty and students will work together under the same roof. Instead of carving out space wherever they can find it, senior art majors will benefit from a spacious studio to support their capstone projects. Construction will add half of a new third floor to the building, which will create additional space for painting and drawing. The third floor will also include a 2D design suite, reflecting the state-of-the-art technology that will be implemented throughout the building to best support today’s students and their art.
