Twin Cities Local Food Happy Hour: Health Care Reform & Local Food

Hosted by Twin Cities Local Food Happy Hour and the Land Stewardship Project
At this month's Local Food Happy Hour we will discuss how health care costs affect local farmers. LSP Program Organizer, Megan Buckingham will speak about LSP's current health care organizing, and how you can join in the fight for fair health care.
Huge increases in health care costs, combined with political "leadership" that too often puts major health insurance corporations in the driver's seat
on health care policy, have caused Land Stewardship Project members to call for major health care reform. Access-for everyone-to affordable, quality health care is critical if we are able to have communities where sustainable, family farm-based agriculture thrives.
Join at 5:30pm at Trotter's Cafe in St. Paul to get better acquainted with your community's movement toward a more sustainable food and farming system.

"Before the Lights Go Out" Book Reading

Please join the Women's Environmental Network (formerly Forum for Women in the Environmental Field), Common Good Books and the Macalester Sustainability Office for a book reading by "Before the Lights Go Out" author and NY Times columnist Maggie Koerth Baker, as well as comments from Governor Dayton's Energy Advisor and former State Senator, Ellen Anderson, at Common Good Books.
The event is free and open to the public.
In Before the Lights Go Out, science blogger and NYTimes columnist Maggie Koerth-Baker presents a comprehensive analysis of the ways in which America produces, distributes, and consumes energy. She explains how our current systems developed, points out their strengths and weaknesses, and offers candid assessments of the time, the difficulty, and the expense involved in making radical changes to the energy systems that have shaped our lives for a hundred years. Drawing on more than two years of research and interviews with experts on everything from our electrical grid and electric cars to fracking and passive buildings, Koerth-Baker explains what we can do, what we can't do, and why "the solution" is really a lot of solutions working together.

Sustainability Small Project Fund
Rolling Deadline
The Sustainability Office has designated a portion of
 its funding to support small on-campus projects
that promote sustainability through creative and innovative action. If possible, projects should encourage collaboration between faculty, staff, and students. An individual or a group can apply for up to $1,000 in funding. Applications are rolling but funding is limited. Click HERE for the application.
