Preferred Parking for Carpools and Low-emitting Vehicles -
Macalester has a campus-wide preferred parking program for carpools and low-emitting vehicles (LEV). The program is part the the LEED Platinum certification of Markim Hall, home of the Institute for Global Citizenship. The 30 spaces, which will be located in the lots most convenient to their users, are available on a first-come, first-served basis and will be rolled out as they are needed. Qualifying carpools must serve two or more Macalester faculty, staff, or students who live a minimum of two miles from campus and must be registered with Zipride (www.macalester.zipride.com) and Metro Transit's guaranteed ride home (http://www.metrotransit.org/riderPrograms/grh.asp. Qualifying low-emitting vehicles must be certified as EPA Smartway Elite designation or have a minimum score of 40 points from the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy annual vehicle rating guide. Click HERE to see if your vehicle is eligible. Permit applications are available in the Facilities Services office. Additional information and parking regulations are available at: www.macalester.edu/security/parking-bike-regs.pdf.
Subsidized Bus Passes are available to all Macalester students, faculty, and staff at the Information Desk in the Campus Center. Bus passes are subsidized at 20% except for the $40 punch cards, the most popular on campus, which are subsidized at 50%. To find the bus routes, use Metro Transit’s trip planner.
Zipride -- www.macalester.zipride.com -- is Macalester's new online rideshare board. It is open to faculty, staff, students and alumni. Check to see if someone is commuting your way and has an extra seat! Or, rent the HourCar and post your trip on the zipride board for others to see. The fuller the car, the cheaper your trip! Note, alumni need to use their alumni@alumni.macalester.edu email address.
