Sharing a Phone
You may be sharing a phone with another faculty or staff member,
but you do not have to share a voice mailbox. If your phone is
busy, or unanswered after 3 rings, callers to your extension
will hear a greeting giving them the option to push 1 or 2 for
whomever they wish to leave a message.
However, in order for this to occur, each person having a voice mailbox on the
extension must initialize his/her mailbox. Initializing
your voice mailbox includes setting a password and recording your name and greeting.
PLEASE NOTE: If you are sharing a phone,
your voice mailbox number is NOT the same as your extension.
The message indicator on your phone will stay on until all messages
have been listened to.
To retrieve messages from your voice mailbox:
access the voice mail system, x6666 from on-campus, or 651-696-6666
from off-campus,
press the * key followed by your mailbox number,
enter your password,
press 1 at the main menu.
Callers will hear a generic (standard) greeting when reaching your extension's
voice mail. You may choose to personalize this main greeting.
To record a personal main greeting:
press MESSAGE, or dial x6666,
enter the extension password (may need to request this from Telecom) record your
names only
press 3 to record a greeting, then 1, then 2
record greeting - don't forget to include which option to press for whom
press #, follow the prompts
When finished, press * twice; you will hear "good-bye"
