Paul Herwig

Paul HerwigTitle: Visiting Instructor

Courses Taught: Mask improvisation for the Actor or Dancer

As an actor, director, and scenic designer Paul has created, directed, taught, toured and performed original work throughout France, Hungary, Scotland, and across Canada and the US for the past 26 years. He has performed on the stages of theatres across North America, including San Francisco's Theatre Artaud, Toronto's Theatre Francais de Toronto, and Philadelphia's Painted Bride. He is a graduate of the Jacques Lecoq School of Movement and Theatre in Paris (81-83). Paul designs sets, directs, and performs major roles with Off-Leash Area, the local interdisciplinary company led by he and his partner, dancer and choreographer Jennifer Ilse, who are both recipients of the MN State Arts Board Artist Initiative program. His work through Off-Leash Area has received numerous accolades, including two Ivey Award honors, City Pages' 2005 Artists of the Year. His sets have been named among City Pages' Best Sets of the Year for four consecutive years. As a painter and mask maker he has exhibited his work in Detroit, Toronto, and here in the Twin Cities.

Paul is a 2009-10 McKnight Theatre Fellow for his work in design and performance.
