Beer and Madden are Two Very Good Things

By Dick Butkus ’55

Some people like to read poetry on their free time. Others like to watch movies or have sex. Me? I think that playing Madden and drinking beer is the most fun ever. It's not that those other activities aren't good. They are. I like sex as much as the next guy. But beer is so much more wholesome. And delicious. Take something simple like Budweiser. It tastes great, and then it also makes you feel happier and more able to do other activities successfully, like play video games or drive. But Budweiser is only the tip of the iceberg. You can go lower-shelf and drink deliciousness like Landmark for $9.99 a 24-pack. Good times. Or you can get a six-pack of something amazing, like St. Pauli’s. So good. What fun you can have with beer.

And Madden too. It's so good. I got my quarterback that I traded up for in the draft to be a 99 overall before he got injured in this, his third season, and I had to play Henry Burris at QB all season! You can imagine my fright, but luckily I had Julius Peppers break the sack record with 29 (I only play on all-Madden too, by the way) and snuck into the playoffs with three shutouts posted on the season! And my running back, Orlando Terrell got league MVP! Then Schwartz, my QB came back and now I'm in the Super Bowl! What fun, if only Janet Jackson shows up at halftime it will be perfect ha ha! Tonight I shall get some beer, I still have a couple of Pauli’s left over, and I will play the Super Bowl. You may think that this would be sad and the end of the beer and my season, but no! The off-season is also fun. I have the draft to look forward to, the scouting, the resigning and the stars that will hold out. So much will happen. Thank God I've got a whole case of wonderful beer to guide me through the process. Oh! What a great night it will be.
