MacPics is as close as Macalester comes to photography classes. The club offers access to the two darkrooms on campus and provides material for film developing and printing. The organization of the club changes from year to year, leaving few constants in the group other than darkroom management. There has been a large increase in student interest and this year the member list tops 100. However, this growth may lead to darkroom fees for next year. The club also leads trips to photography exhibits in the area and plans to incorporate several workshops into the budget for next semester.
This is the second year that MacPics has sponsored a student photo show of work produced in the MacPics darkrooms. The increase in participation has moved the site of the show from the second floor of the student center to the outside gallery walls of the Janet Wallace Fine Arts building. The opening will be March 11 at 8 p.m. The exhibit will be on display through April 1.
