BVT awarded MIAC MVP

Men’s basketball forward Ben Van Thorre ’04 was named MIAC Player of the Year for the 2003-2004 season. Van Thorre helped lead the Scots to their highest winning total in program history. The Scots won 18 games and placed second in the MIAC playoffs.
 Van Thorre, a three time All-MIAC player, led the conference in scoring and rebounding with an average of 18.8 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. He also finishes his basketball career at Macalester with a school record of 1,707 points.
 Van Thorre is joined on the All-MIAC team by teammates Chris Assel ’04 and Erik Jackson ’05. Assel joined the Macalester squad after playing for Division I Sacred Heart in Conn. Assel averaged 16.1 points per game and lead the team with 61 three-pointers. Jackson and Assel provided the Scots with a menacing back-court combination throughout the season. Jackson averaged 12.7 points and 3.7 assists per game.
