Queer space
Japanese poetry and the Indigo Girls

By MEGAN BAYLES

At the risk of sounding superdyke, I fill this week's Queer Space with Haiku dedicated to the Indigo Girls, to whose music I will forever be indebted. Forgive me as I embrace the bad poetry that so often escapes my fingertips.

The Indigo Girls, together with native environmental activist Winona LaDuke, will be at St. Olaf College in Northfield this Thursday, April 10th. They are touring and speaking to promote alternative energy and cultural preservation. The tour attempts to bridge gaps between college students and the native communities that exist very close to them. The Honor the Earth Tour will not only address local energy issues, but also the need for more sound energy policy and technology in the context of the war with Iraq.

Megan Bayles is a sophomore. She loves the Indigo Girls. Email: mbayles@macalester.edu.
