MCSG's intentions good: Elections were publicized

By HARIS AQEEL

This week, I've been e-mailed by people who claim that MCSG did not publicize the coming elections properly, choosing instead to inform a select few people who (and I quote) "we like."
Let me be absolutely clear: there is no credibility to these accusations. The fact that they have been raised disappoints me a great deal.
Demanding accountability is easy, promising it is easier (it was for me)—it's much harder to put ones money where ones mouth is, and make that change. Have we succeeded entirely? No. Have we improved, though? Absolutely. We've sent out, compiled and publicized surveys that, in aggregate, had over 1500 respondents this year. That takes time. I'm not saying we're perfect, that we did not make mistakes. All I am saying is that we tried our hardest. I've worked with a team of committed and passionate students for two years on MCSG. I've seen these people work extremely hard and show results. I'm extremely proud of them.
Given this, insinuations about us trying to limit transparency are very deflating indeed. We did whatever we could to publicize these elections. We sent out Mac Mails, publicized in The Today, put up table tents and posters. We wrote to The Mac Weekly urging people to run. I don't know what else we could have done in terms of publicity. If you do, please feel free to talk to us about it. Giving constructive advice is very gratifying, making baseless accusations is not.
Here's what all of us can do to ensure transparency: vote on April 16th.
