Quietly and mostly to myself
Meet the Quietly...

By ERIK MORALES

It Starts.

Welcome to a new school year. My name is Erik Morales and I have been given the honor of being the editor for this column. A little about myself, I am from southeast Los Angeles and currently a senior here at Mac. I have co-chaired ˇAdelante! and Bridges, was chosen for the Mellon Minority Undergraduate Fellowship and take part in Student Allies for Academic Success, the Multicultural Advisory Committee and the American Studies Steering Committee. WARNING: expect my contributions for this column to not only be very critical but also radical in nature. I have seen and encountered too much here that holding back will surely give my conscience a nervous breakdown.

Back to the article—some may be wondering what this space is for: anything. This is a space for students of color to express themselves in whatever way imaginable. In the past, there has been poetry, short stories, recounts of an event, etc. Be it about yourself, class, family, and/or off-campus experiences, if you want your voice heard, send it my way. There is also the option of being published under “anonymous” if you wish. I am currently trying to get some of my friends who attend other higher education institutions to contribute some of their work for an off-campus perspective. All in all, this should be an interesting year. Feel free to contact me with any submissions or questions. Hasta luego.

Erik Morales is a senior.
