Many prospective students expected at today's Sampler
Over 80 prospective first-years (PFs) will be visiting Macalester today as part of the Admissions Office's Fall Sampler program. PFs will be visiting classes, going on campus tours, sitting in on student panel discussions, meeting with athletic coaches and visiting a number of departments.
The Admissions Office expects over 150 visitors (including parents) on campus today. Any on-campus students who are interested in hosting a PF for future samplers should contact the Admissions Office at www.macalester.edu/admissions.

Registrar Jayne Neimi featured in Star Tribune article.
When the Minneapolis Star Tribune asked readers to submit unusual wedding invitations they had sent or received, more than 120 flooded in. One of the submissions came from Macalester’s own Registrar Jayne Neimi
According to the Star Tribune: “Richard Lund, 49, and Jayne Niemi, 46, of St. Paul couldn't resist a play on their names. On the cover of their invitation is a baby picture of Dick, with the words ‘See Dick.’ On the inside is a photo of Jayne as a toddler and the words ‘See Jayne.’
Next page: the adult couple: ‘See Dick and Jayne . . .’ Next page: ‘ . . . get married!’ ‘This is a first-time marriage for both of us. We thought our ages gave us the right to do whatever we wanted,’ said Jayne.”

Kofi’s Korner, the new student lounge, to open this week
“Get your game on!” proclaims a sign in the Ruth Stricker Dayton Campus Center, referring to the new student game room/student lounge, which opens next week.
In Friday’s Macalester College Student Government (MCSG) election, students chose to name the lounge “Kofi’s Korner.”
Kofi’s Korner will occupy a former sparsely-used storage room on the ground floor of the Campus Center. It will feature two pool tables, foosball, ping pong, board games, a stereo, a big screen TV with DirecTV, a coffee bar and, according to the aforementioned sign, a “Non-Airport Atmosphere.”
Director of Campus Programs Brian Wagner said he hopes Kofi’s Korner will be an informal space in which students can relax and “hang out.”
The lounge cost an estimated $135,000 to construct. Former MCSG President Haris Aqeel spearheaded the lounge’s funding, helping to raise $124,000 in contributions. The Friends of the College, as well as Activity Fees, covered the remainder of the costs.
 Hours for Kofi’s Korner will be Monday – Thursday, from 11:00 a.m. – midnight Friday and Saturday, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 a.m., and Sunday, 11:00 a.m. – midnight.
