Women’s Golf Sinks At Owatonna
Macalester finished last in the Division III Midwest Classic at Owatonna Country Club last weekend. Eight other teams competed in the Classic, which Gustavus Adolphus won.
Kristen Ausan ’08 led the team with an aggregate score of 187 in two rounds of the par-73 course. While Ausan’s performance slid on the second day of the tournament, she still finished a strong 23rd place. Anna Gizzi ’07 and Kylie Thomson ’07 followed Ausan, scoring 200 and 212, respectively.
The Scots are looking to place higher in their next tournament at the St. Benedict Invitational at Greystone in Sauk Centre on Oct. 2-3.
 Men’s Golf Finishes Second-To-Last
After weathering a tough Friday, the men’s golf team finished strong on Saturday at the Carleton Fall Invitational at Northfield Country Club, placing 10th out of 11 teams. The Scots had the 5th best showing on the second day of the tournament, posting a score of 318.
Despite the team’s poor performance, the Scots put up some exceptional individual performances. Kramer Lawson ’05 placed 16th overall and had the 7th best performance of 59 golfers on the second day of the tournament with a score of 77. Close behind Lawson was Eric Kelsey ’07, who placed 20th.
“We didn’t do quite as well as we wanted to, but we showed a lot of potential for conference next week,” Lawson said. “Dhiren Patel [’06] also scored a 79 on his second day, which was the best round of his life by six shots.”
The Scots will look to perform better in their next tournament at the Twin Cities Classic on Oct. 2-4.
