Diversity Weekend Information






Friday, October 31st 5:00pm to 6:30pm, Weyerhaeuser chapel Keynote speaker, King Downing will speak regarding the “Axis of Evil: 9/11 and Hate Crimes at Home.”
Friday, October 31st 8:30pm, Mary Gwen Owens Performance Stage, Campus Center Performance by a Native American entertainment QuetzalCoatlicue Danza Mexica Azteca. They are collective of Mexican-American (Chicanas/Chicanos) & Mexican Natives brought together by the desire to learn and share the traditional culture of ancient Mexico known as the Mexicanidad. We are a grassroots effort engaged in leadership development through the learning and teaching of history, music and dance.
Their dances display the history of the Indigenous People known as the Chichimeca (or Aztec) and the relationship between the human race and the universe.
Saturday, November 1st 1:00pm to 3:00pm, John B. Davis Lecture Hall Panel discussion entitled, “Exploring the Impact of Hate Crimes Across Communities: How do we deal with them?” Seven panelists share their stories.
Saturday, November 1st 3:00pm to 4:00pm, John B. Davis Lecture Hall Informal reception geared towards networking with the panelists and getting involved.
Sunday, November 2nd 11:00am to 1:00pm, Cultural House Brunch provides a space for all participants or those interested to reflect on the events and ideas brought up by the different diversity events.
Sunday, November 2nd 8:00 to 9:00pm, The Chapel A candlelight vigil will be held to honor the survivors of hate crimes and their loved ones. Students across campus will have the opportunity to show solidarity in the fight against such terrible acts.
