The men’s soccer team beat Carleton 4-3 in double overtime in Northfield on Wednesday, thanks to a goal by Robb Swick ’05. The Scots secured their third consecutive MIAC title and their sixth title in seven years. Winning the title earns them home field advantage in the MIAC playoffs, which determine the league’s NCAA Division III playoff berth. The Scots play their last conference game against Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the women’s soccer team beat Carleton 1-0 at home on Wednesday, thanks to an overtime goal by Jessica Bullen ’05. The win guarantees the Scots a spot in next week’s four-team MIAC playoffs. Their first round opponent for their Nov. 4 match has yet to be determined.
Despite a strong offensive display, the football team lost to St. Olaf 47-14 on Saturday, with Matt Munson ’04 and David Kruger ’04 scoring. Quarterback Adam Heathcoate ’04 was 27-for-52 for 294 yards and Kruger had seven catches for 60 yards and added another 94 yards running on 14 carries.
The volleyball team swept Bethel 30-28, 31-20, 30-24 Wednesday to close the season, ending with a 6-5 MIAC record and a 19-10 record overall. Beating the Royals gave the Scots a shot at the playoffs, but unfortunately, wins the same night by Carleton and Gustavus kept the team out of the post-season.
