Please don't scrap the Electoral College by Ryan Murray There is only one word that fully and completely sums up, "America's election ills: a vote for change," an article published in last week's edition of The Mac Weekly. This word is "ludicrous." The author of the article stated that the Electoral College is "an antiquated, indirect process that serves no purpose except to distort and complicate politics and violate basic democratic principles." If I, too, were to base my opinion on the belief that the justification for the Electoral College is that Americans cannot be trusted to intelligently elect a candidate, I might be inclined to agree with him. However, many factors were conveniently left out of that article. ... The worst comedy on campus by far by Josh Nissenboim ...So how did you guys get started? T: We met in a playwrighting class last year and we both realized that we're extremely unfunny. M: One could almost say, bad. T: From there it was just a matter of bringing our charter to the LB covered in blood. So why bother creating a whole new sketch comedy troupe? T: For a liberal campus, things can be pretty dull out here. Not too much mayhem. We want to change that. ..... |

try using Internet to teach

Emily Rosenberg spent much of this past summer designing a syllabus. In preparation
for her current class, U.S. Foreign Policy in the 20th Century, she searched
the Web for primary documents, images and articles that could broaden the
scope of historical material available to her students. Rosenberg is only
one of many Macalester professors currently exploring the possibilities of
the computer revolution through Website construction, multimedia presentations
and access to online readings. But students, who daily deal with network crashes
and printer problems, have had mixed reactions. ...... Students advise planning committee by Katie Kilcoyne Hetsko Four members of the Committee on Strategic Directions met with students Tuesday to ask for input on what directions the college should take in the next ten to fifteen years. Approximately 30 students attended the meeting to say what they would like to see the college do differently in the future. ... |
