—Have you ever read any of those Encyclopedia Brown books when you were a kid?

—No, but why do you ask?

—Well they're old books, about this kid, Encyclopedia Brown, who solves all these cases. His dad was a cop, and he'd come home and stress out about a case he couldn't solve or something. But anyway, Encyclopedia Brown will pull out this minute detail out of nowhere and solve the case. You'd never ever notice the clue, but you'd always turn the page and say, "Oh, I knew that, I noticed that." But sometimes the clues come out of nowhere. Like that one time when he solved a robbery by figuring out that a couple was cross-dressing because the man sat by the window.

—What?

—Yeah, I was eight years old or something, how am I gonna know that? So, anyway, then I turned around to ask her needed any help, but she had already filled out the room reservation form. How the hell did she find one, and how did she know what info to put down? Even in those boxes that say 'FOR OFFICE RECORDS ONLY'. I didn't know what to do so I just started joking around and asked, "Well, I take it you've stayed here at the lovely Park Motor Inn before." She goes, "Yeah. Room 131 available?" Sure enough it is. I figured she liked that it was really close to the parking lot from there so I smiled and gave her the keys.

—So what'd they find?

—They found like 10 Gs in cash and 20 kilos of coke—

—20?!

—Yeah, I know, right? So like I was saying—

—What were you talking about again?

—I probably could have noticed somethng, like in Encyclopedia Brown, you know?

—No, it's not like that at all. It's not like some detective story for kids. It's more like you just didn't pay attention.
