After returning home from a tough loss on the road in Oregon against Lewis and Clark, the Scots were looking to put another game in the win column on their home turf as they played host to the Oles of St. Olaf on Saturday, Oct. 26. The Scots began the afternoon by honoring the seniors of the teams and their parents in a pre-game ceremony. Then the Scots made their way on the field to face the Olies, a long-time MIAC rival, in front of a crowd of faithful Macalester fans.

The first half of the game was promising for the Scots, who were hoping for an upset and their first win against a MIAC opponent this season. After a scoreless first quarter, the Oles got on the board midway through the second quarter on a ten-yard pass from quarterback Brian Senske to receiver Frankie Bass. The point after was good and the Scots found themselves down 7–0 early on in the game. The Scots' offense, who were looking to improve upon last week's shut-out performance, was still unable to put any successful drives together. Near the end of the first half, quarterback Adam Denny '04 was picked off on the St. Olaf 37-yard line. The defense was still on its toes, though, and able to capitalize on an Ole mistake. On the second play of the drive, defensive lineman Jake Riley '06 sacked Senske and forced a fumble. Linebacker Nick Kraemer '03 recovered the ball and ran it back 20 yards for the touchdown. The kick after failed, but the Scots found themselves down by only one point, 7–6, a respectable halftime score.

After the intermission, the Scots defense returned to the field, seemingly pumped from the late first half score. However, the Oles were able to put together a strong drive, highlighted by a 26-yard rush from back Moore and capped off by Bass's second touchdown catch of the day, this time from 13 yards out. After a failed extra point, the score stood at 13–6 in favor of the Oles.

Late in the third quarter, the Oles put together a long scoring drive, making their way 84 yards downfield in 12 plays and just over four minutes. Senske hit Olson from 34 yards out to put another six on the board for the Olies and to make the score 20–6.

In the fourth quarter the Scots' offense continued to struggle and the defense began to sputter after having been on the field for most of the third quarter. The Olies put up 14 more points in the final period, both on rushes from back Jason Moore, one from 63 yards out and one from five yards out. The final score of the Scots' last home game of the season was 34-6, in favor of the Olies.

Denny finished the game 19 of 40 with 231 yards and four interceptions. He was sacked eight times. He hit Adam Johnson '03 eight times from 69 yards, David Krueger '04 four times for 79 yards, Adam Heathcote '04 four times for 49 yards and Kraemer and Steve Schaub '06 one time each for 11 yards and 22 yards respectively.

Defensive back Brandon Dixon '03 and Kraemer led the defense with 15 tackles each while linebacker Clark Boyesen '03 added 14. Defensive lineman Andrew Porter '03 finished the contest with two and a half sacks; his season total now stands at 13.

The Scots play Friday Nov. 1 at 11 a.m. at the Metrodome in Minneapolis as part of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Metrodome Classic. The Scots take on Rockford who is 2–6 overall and 1–3 in the UMAC.
