Battle of the Bands is on the way

By ROB van ALSTYNE

I am all about promoting on campus musical activities this week, so listen up y'all. Those looking for exciting weekend action and too young to head over to the Groveland Tap (wait, can you be too young to go there?) would do well to check out the Macalester hosted Battle of the Bands royal rumble – hey even over-age kids should go. All the action is going down this Friday in the Alexander G. Hill Ballroom of the Kagin Commons and is for a good cause (proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity).

There will be fabulous door prizes including gift certificates to Cheapo, Grand Hair and Beyond, and Ace Hardware. And, as if that somehow weren't enough—a fabulous mug from Jamba Juice! Food will also be available, so bring money and eat. Representing Macalester in all-out musical warfare against the University of Minnesota and St. Thomas will be Short Order (a.k.a. those pop-punk players formerly known as Fallout Boy).

The reason for the name change according to head man Chris Holoyda, "We changed our name from Fallout Boy because four other bands named Fallout Boy simultaneously threatened legal action, after a brief stint as Monkey Knife Fight and subsequently the symbol '&,' the band has finally settled on Short Order."

What can I say kids, it's time to rock and attend battle of the bands while you still can, before all dancing and music is eliminated by the newly elected conservative regime of American Government.

The Battle of the Bands takes place on Friday, Nov. 15th, in the Alexander G. Hill Ballroom at 9 p.m. $5 recommended donation for Macalester students. The bands, in order of performance are: Nipson Lounge (U of M), Hollow Earth (U of M), Short Order (Mac), Inspirado (St. Thomas)
