The Macalester Scots and the Hamline Pipers went into their 102nd meeting looking like two very evenly matched teams. While the first quarter of the contest played out to most everyone's expectations, the Pipers exploded in the second quarter, putting theball in the endzone three times on passes from quarterback Andy Gagnon to receiver Doug Amsden. With two minutes left in the half, the Scots were finally able to move the ball downfield and with only two ticks left on the clock, quarterback Adam Heatcote '04 scampered for 18 yards to the goal line to give the Scots their only score of the game.

The Scots were only down by two scores at the half and the lead seemed quite attainable. Unfortunately, they were not able to put anything together in the second half while the Pipers put the ball in the endzone two more times in the fourth quarter. This time, Gagnon hit Jim Miller from one yard out for the first score, while running back Joe Kvame, who amassed 147 on the day, scored the final touchdown of the game o nan 18–yard run to put the Pipers up for good, 35–7. Gagnon finished the day going 20–for–30 for 267 yards and four touchdowns, while Amsden pulled in nine passes for 148 yards.

On offense the Scots were lead by running back Grant Heuett '02, who rushed for 117 yards. Macalester was unable to establish a solid passing game as Heathcote went 10–29 for 94 yards and one interception. Leading receiver Ty O'Connell '02 pulled in four of those passes for 35 yards to lead the receiving corps.

On defense, Marshall Mullenbach '03 intercepted his seventh pass of the season and Nick Kraemer '03 was in on 13 tackles, including three for a loss of yardage. Kraemer and Andrew Porter '03 each registered one and a half quarterback sacks. Clark Boyesen '03 and Brett Cramer '03 both registered a half a sack. Gray Herzberg '04 and Luke Zika '05 each had six solo tackles for the game, while Nick Fruge '02 and Boyesen added five each.

This game marked the final game for the eight graduating seniors on the Macalester roster centerDan Frey, receiver Ty O'Connell, receiver Matt Diediker, offensive tackle Adam Hamilton, defensive back Gus Mueller, running back Grant Heuett, kicker Russell Bradley-Cook, and linebacker Nick Fruge. All eight were honored before the start of the contest .
