Alice Pedersen ’05 was walking on Selby Ave. Wednesday evening when three pre-teen girls attacked and attempted to rob her. The incident occurred in front of the J & R Cleaners and Laundry on the corner of Aldine and Selby at around 5:40 p.m.
According to Pedersen, the girls attacked her from behind, pushed her to the ground and kicked her repeatedly in the back. The girls demanded her money, and she produced an empty wallet.
“They were yelling at me, swearing at me in high female voices,” Pedersen said. “I got sassy and pissed because I knew I was being attacked by 12-year-olds. I opened my wallet and said, ‘I don’t have any money. I’m in college, I pay tuition.’ I showed them my coupons.”
The girls then ran off. Two patrons and two employees from the Taste of Thailand who had seen the incident came out to help Pedersen and two of them unsuccessfully tried to catch the girls.
The police were called from the restaurant and Pedersen immediately filed a report. The police canvassed the neighborhood shortly thereafter and are investigating the crime.
