Grand Avenue jaywalker caused car crash, driver injury

Dear Female Mac Student Mid-Block Crosser:

You may not know what you caused on Monday, Nov. 17, but it is a heap of trouble. You walked across Grand Avenue right in front of several oncoming cars in the middle of the block between Snelling and Macalester at about 10:30 a.m. Not only was this an illegal act, it was just plain not smart. You, thank goodness, came out of the ordeal unscathed ... but left the scene of the accident. I, however, ended up with thousands of dollars of damage to my vehicle from the van that rear-ended my car when I slowed to avoid hitting the car in front of me that avoided hitting you: a bad chain reaction that has now cost me dearly. I am also dealing with the pain of a neck injury, doctor bills, physical therapy and lost wages. As a former Mac student myself, I completely understand the temptation to cross Grand where it seems most convenient. However, please do what you should have learned before kindergarten: look before crossing the street. Your life, and the lives of others, depends on it.

Char Mason
