After three months away, Mike comes in like a lion

By Curtis Gilbert

A well-rested and bewhiskered President Michael McPherson returned to campus this week following a three-month sabbatical at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. What exactly does he mean? I have heard ANWR called an "incomparable wilderness," "one of our last, great national treasures," a place "to be defended at all cost"—why? What is it about this place few people have ever seen—or ever will see—that stirs America to its core?
