On-campus rooms fill up quickly

By Jonathan Beland

Thursday, April 5, was a sad day for many members of the class of 2003. It was the last day of room draw for on-campus housing, and many sophomores walked away from the offices of Residential Life without anywhere to live next year. This spring was the second year that room draw numbers were randomly assigned by class. "I think the system performed very well," said Sarah Griesse, Associate Dean of Students & Director of Residential Life, though she added, "There are adjustments that need to be considered."....

Hamlet to be performed at Macalester

Minneapolis actor Stephen Pelinski, well known for his work with the Guthrie Theater, will be the featured guest artist in Macalester's production of Hamlet. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. The five performances are Thursday through Sunday, April 26-29, with a matinee at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 28, on the Theatre Mainstage. Macalester will stage a contemporary production of Hamlet's struggle to avenge his father's murder. The play will present an in-depth view not only of Hamlet's character, but also of the other young characters. "Our production speaks to modern life and how young people can become trapped and coerced by corrupting forces prevalent in their society," says director Sears Eldredge. Jacques Roy '01 will portray Hamlet. Pelinski, who is serving as a mentor in the production, will perform the role of King Claudius. Tickets are $7 for general admission, $5 for senior citizens and free with valid student, faculty or staff identification. Student reservations are $2. For reservations and other information, call x6359.

By Chris Berry

On Wednesday night, a friend and I went to see American Desi, which was playing in Eagan, and got lost because I printed out the wrong map. We found a movie theater, but it was the wrong one and they weren't playing American Desi. So we ended up going to see Along Came a Spider, even though it's gotten pretty lousy reviews. ...
